A MOVING SHIP

Hey guys!
I was feeling all poetic all of a sudden so i decided to put this up. Now, the true meaning and reason
behind the poem will be posted later on.
But for now, feel free to try and get into my head and guess what this poem is about. cheers!

The perfect sunset, the birth of a beautiful thing.

A rising tide caused by attraction.

The Newtonian force is overcome.

A great struggle for the sea from thirst.

An empty vase, an active infant.

A misguided emotion, a great daydreamer.

A sinking ship, a soul, seeking space.

A union of two: compromised by restriction.

PRESENT-DAY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

I have been reading some interesting stuff about Artificial intelligence and i thought i should just share this here. This isn't the usual good stuff you get from me but it's worth a read.

The Turing test is a proposal for a test of a machine's capability to perform human-like conversation. Described by Alan Turing in the 1950 paper "Computing machinery and intelligence", it proceeds as follows: a human judge engages in a natural language conversation with two other parties, one a human and the other a machine; if the judge cannot reliably tell which is which, then the machine is said to pass the test. It is assumed that both the human and the machine try to appear human. In order to keep the test setting simple and universal (to explicitly test the linguistic capability of some machine), the conversation is usually limited to a text-only channel such as a teletype machine as Turing suggested or, more recently, IRC or IM.

The most prevalent debunking point in most of the objections was that computers couldn't think, have original feelings and their conscience  is defined by prewritten codes hence that sense of originality with respect to action will be lacking. Also, the inability of a computer to process and compute instructions holistically is still a major flaw. Even though we as humans have come a long way in making multi-processor super computers which can give us real-time word suggestions just as auto correct or even interact with us like Cortana in the windows update, the computer's emotions are still limited in the fact that they cant say " I'm sorry" when we cry or even say bye bye if and when they see us leaving.

Cortana was able to recognize my voice and repeat exactly what I said. Some humans including family have failed this test a couple of times. The down side was I had to wait a couple of minutes before my input voice note was processed by remote servers which on the second try told me that a network error interrupted the whole process. Regarding this, computers haven't as of the year 2014 been able to clearly analyse the senses a normal human will take seconds to process. I don't see that happening in 50 years to come either. Just as a human cannot give emotions and re-configure the conscience of another person, a human cannot rightly give emotions and re-configure the conscience of a machine or computer.

THE GHANAIAN CEDI, A FRESH START

After seeing a tweet from citifm regarding a professor from Yale's input on our failing currency, my first reaction was " chop your house matter !". But then, after actually opening and reading the embedded link in the tweet my reaction was " To some extent, i agree with him". I am not here to prove nor disprove the saying that the human mind is subject to change. I want to use this blog-post to appeal to Ghanaians to think this through.

From what i understand, Inflation occurs when the central bank isn't able to fully regulate the money in circulation in a country and one of Ghana's major problems is the high inflation rate which seems to swell in little time.If this notion is right, to solve one of the major problems the country is facing, we need to ensure that the right structures are in place and fully functional. In the article, he mentioned that Hong Kong is a country which adopted this approach and we can all bear witness that their approach has brought them a lot of good fortune. Panama i know for a fact is another country that adopted this way. the Balboa which is the official currency of Panama enjoys a 1:1 ratio with the US dollar and a 1:3.62 ratio with the Ghanaian cedi. There are 9 countries who also went via this route. I can mention names but it will be irrelevant as of this time.

Here's a dumb thought! let's scrap our currency, introduce the dollar and fix our beloved cedi in the background. put all the required structures in place and prevent it from happening again,  re-introduce it when it's fit to play with the world's leading econmies at an exchange rate of 1:1 with the world's strongest currency which is the US dollar. yeap that will make us the strongest currency for some time at least.
Not only will this solve our problem, this will give our future leaders the right experience to handle future situations like this. as they say, experience is the best teacher.

Which is better, you're going to work in the morning and you find out your car is low on fuel due to a leak in the fuel tank. You have another car with fuel at your disposal. Now, the second car can take you on your rounds and back whilst your driver who you pay irrespective stays back to go and fuel the car and make sure the fuel tank isn't leaking so as to prevent the problem next time around. The driver in consultation with the mechanic bring out a proposal on all the evident and possible ways of preventing the leak next time. Your children were around all of this and will know what to do next time around. What will you do, try and go on your rounds with the first car or go with the second car and hand over the first car to your driver to deal with the mechanic and teach your children what to do in the process?

Cheers!
